Inspiring New Farmers
Statement
This study focuses on agriculture, particularly small-scale practices like hobby farming, homesteading, and urban farming.
This project will explore the reasons behind the decline in participation from younger generations in this field.
Once the causes are identified, a design solution will be developed to address and close the gap.

Research Key Findings
1. Agriculture needs to reposition itself to engage with youth and inspire new farmers.
2. This industry does not prioritize visual communication that is designed with younger people in mind.
3. Young non-farmers enjoy having a connection to natural elements.
4. Young non-farmers enjoy illustrative works.
5. There is the notion that if you are a part of the farming community, you are doing it with the goal of it being a career.
6. Perception those who started farming were either rich enough to buy land or that land was passed down to them from family.
Objectives
The goal for this project moving forward is to educate non-farmers about small-holding farming. Beyond that, the project will;
1. Inspire individuals to start talking and thinking about farming
2. Highlight that small-holding agriculture does not need to be a career
3. Communicate that farming does not require lots of land and finances to get started
3. Create an emotional journey to highlight this self-fulfilling and rewarding way of life
4. Connect communities (urban/rural)
The outcome will be a visual narrative that can be brought into urban and rural communities.
